§ 146-448. Restoration of pavements.

  • (1)

    In the restoration of pavements, all work and materials used must meet the standards and specifications of the department of public works.

    (2)

    Age of roadway shall be determined in accordance with official records of department of public works and the city.

    (3)

    Pavement edges shall have vertical faces and be neatly aligned with the center and ends of the trench.

    (4)

    Sections of sidewalks scored into stones shall be removed to the nearest score line or joint. Unscored sidewalks and driveways shall be repaved with straight edges parallel to the trench.

    (5)

    Unstable pavement shall be removed over cave-ins, areas of contiguous subsidence, overbreaks and small floating sections and is to be treated in the same manner as the main trench.

    (6)

    Cutouts outside of the trench lines must be normal or parallel to the trench line.

    (7)

    Permit holder shall be required to repair existing pavement damage caused by the failing of his underground structure or structures.

    (8)

    The director of the department of public works or his designee shall have the authority to consider debilitating conditions such as cracking, differential settlement, especially in the vicinity of trees not related to underground utilities and other conditions that might contribute to aging a street before a usual life has been achieved in determining the requirements and dimensions for restoration and may increase the size of the replacement section required in order to safely and adequately restore the roadway.

    (9)

    If corner sidewalk cuts or restoration work extends into an area where curb ramps that are compliant with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are required, then ADA-compliant curb ramps shall be installed on that corner, except as directed by the director of the department of public works or his designee.
