§ 54-340. Possession of firearms or ammunition by minors.
(a)
Except as provided in this section, no person under the age of 18 years of age shall carry or have in his possession, any firearm as defined in section 54-1.
(b)
Except as provided in this section, no person under the age of 18 years of age shall carry or have in his possession any ammunition as defined in this section.
(c)
The provisions of this section shall not prohibit the possession of a firearm or ammunition by a member of the National Guard or United States Armed Forces in the course and scope of his duties in the National Guard or Armed Forces.
(d)
The provisions of this section shall not prohibit the possession of a firearm or ammunition if the person is supervised by a person 18 or more years of age and the possession is in connection with the following:
(1)
Activities at a licensed shooting gallery.
(2)
Use at other locations or events if the use of the firearm is authorized in writing by the superintendent of police.
(3)
Unloaded rifles or shotguns kept in trunk or secured in vehicles so the weapons cannot be available for immediate use.
(e)
This section shall not apply to any person while within his domicile.
(f)
For the purposes of this section, ammunition shall mean any bullet, shot, or other projectile with fuses, propelling charges, or primers manufactured or intended for firing from firearms. Ammunition shall not include BB's or pellets manufactured or intended for firing from BB guns, pellet rifles, or other spring or pneumatic guns.
