§ 154-604. Erection of traffic control devices.

  • (a)

    Whenever any law of the city designates and describes a through street, the city traffic engineer shall place and maintain a traffic signal, stop sign or yield sign on each and every street intersecting such through street or intersecting that portion thereof described and designated as such by any law of the city.

    (b)

    The city traffic engineer may determine and designate intersections where particular hazards exist upon other than through streets and determine whether vehicles shall stop or yield at one or more entrances to any such intersection and shall erect the appropriate traffic control device at every such place.

    (c)

    Every sign erected pursuant to this section relating to required stopping of vehicular traffic shall bear the word "Stop" in letters not less than six inches in height, and such signs shall at nighttime be rendered luminous by:

    (1)

    Steady or flashing internal illumination;

    (2)

    Fixed floodlight projected on the face of the sign; or

    (3)

    Efficient reflecting elements on the face of the sign.

    (d)

    Every stop sign shall be located as near as practicable to the nearest line of the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, at the nearest line of the roadway.
