§ 146-548. Supplemental design standards for public transit shelters.

  • (a)

    Public transit shelters shall only be installed at or within 20 feet of a designated transit stop.

    (b)

    Public transit shelters shall be designed and installed in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and all applicable local, state, and/or federal design standard requirements.

    (c)

    Commercial general advertising signage may be included as part of an approved public transit shelter when the proposed location is:

    (1)

    Adjacent to any non-residentially zoned property as provided on the official zoning map of the city.

    (2)

    Within the right-of-way of a primary arterial street, as classified by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

    (3)

    Additional shelter locations where general commercial advertising signage is allowed may be permitted by motion of the council

    (4)

    Commercial general advertising signage may not exceed 23 square feet in area; however, only one side of a double-faced sign shall be included in the computation of sign area.

    (d)

    The design of public transit shelters is subject to the review and approval of the design advisory committee of the city planning commission.

    (1)

    The design advisory committee is authorized to approve one or more standard designs of public transit shelter, allowing any sidewalk use permit application proposing such standard design to bypass design advisory committee review.

    (2)

    Such approval shall be provided in writing and/or by issuance of stamped, approved plans.

    (e)

    Within full control local historic districts, including the Vieux Carré, the staff of the jurisdictional historic commission shall review the design of public transit shelters to be located within such districts.

    (1)

    The staff of the jurisdictional historic commission is authorized to approve one or more standard designs of public transit shelter, allowing any sidewalk use permit application proposing such standard design to bypass staff review.

    (2)

    Such approval shall be provided in writing and/or by issuance of stamped, approved plans.
