§ 86-20. Interference, coercion, or intimidation.

  • (a)

    It shall be an unlawful practice for a person or for two or more persons to conspire:

    (1)

    To coerce, intimidate, threaten, or interfere with any person in the exercise or enjoyment of, or on account of his having exercised or enjoyed, or on account of his having aided or encouraged any other person in the exercise or enjoyment of, any right granted or protected by this chapter.

    (2)

    To publish, circulate, display, post or mail, either directly or indirectly, any written or printed, or electronic computer based communication, notice or advertisement which evidences an intent to violate directly or indirectly any of the provisions of this chapter.

    (3)

    To aid, abet, incite, counsel or coerce the doing of any act therein declared to be unlawful or to prevent any person from complying with this section or any rule, regulation or order issued pursuant to this chapter.

    (4)

    To retaliate or discriminate in any manner against a person because he has opposed a practice declared unlawful by this chapter, or because he has made a charge, filed a complaint, testified, assisted, or participated in any manner in any investigation, proceeding, or hearing under this chapter.

    (5)

    To obstruct or prevent a person from complying with the provisions of this chapter or any order issued thereunder.

    (b)

    Any person who shall willfully resist, prevent, impede or interfere with the commission or any of its agents or representatives in the performance of duty under this chapter, or shall willfully violate an order of the commission or any of its members or representatives in the performance of duty under this chapter, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than six months, or by a fine of not more than $500.00, or by both such imprisonment and such fine; provided that procedure for the review of the order shall not be deemed to be such willful conduct.
