§ 54-495. Unlawful disposal of medical waste; hypodermic needles.
It shall be unlawful for any person to place, deposit, dump, discard, throw or otherwise dispose of any medical waste or hypodermic needles or syringes into or upon any public waterway, lake, bayou or drainage canal or body of water in the city unless such disposal is authorized, at the particular disposal site and in the particular manner in which it is done, by the department of sanitation or by an agency of the state or federal government having the power to authorize such disposal. For the purposes of this section, medical waste or those wastes resulting from the operation of medical clinics, hospitals, abattoirs and other facilities producing waste may consist of but are not limited to human and animal parts, contaminated bandages, pathological specimens, hypodermic needles, contaminated clothing and surgical gloves.
