§ 54-358. Possession of a firearm or dangerous weapon in a firearm-free zone.
(a)
Possession of a firearm, or dangerous weapon as defined in La. R.S. 14:2, on one's person at any time while in a firearm-free zone is unlawful.
(b)
For purposes of this section, the following words have the following meanings:
i.
"Firearm-free zone" is defined as any New Orleans Recreation Development Commission ("NORDC") campus.
ii.
"NORDC campus" means all city-owned facilities and property at which NORDC-sponsored youth recreational programs are offered.
(c)
The provisions of this section shall not apply to:
i.
Possession of a firearm by a law enforcement officer.
ii.
Possession of a firearm in accordance with a properly issued concealed handgun permit.
iii.
Any other constitutionally protected activity which cannot be regulated by the city or state.
(d)
Whoever violates the provisions of this section shall be fined not more than $500.00 or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.
(e)
The city shall clearly mark the existence of all firearm-free zones using signs or other appropriate indicators. It shall be a violation of this section for any individual to cover, remove, deface, alter or destroy any sign or other indicator identifying a firearm-free zone.
