§ 54-24. Telephone alarm system; prohibition; penalty.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to use, or cause to be used, install, operate, adjust, program or otherwise maintain a telephonic alarm system which automatically or mechanically transmits a signal, message or warning to any city department of fire or department of police telephone lines.

    (b)

    For the purposes of this section, the term "telephonic alarm system" shall mean any mechanism, equipment or device which is designed to operate automatically through the use of public telephone facilities to transmit a signal, message or warning to another location.

    (c)

    Whoever violates the provisions of this section shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not less than $20.00 nor more than $100.00 or by imprisonment of not less than three days, nor more than 90 days and/or both. This section shall not apply to any public utility furnishing facilities, lines or equipment under tariffs on file with regulatory agencies.
