§ 30-655. Advisory committee.
(a)
A food and/or beverage advisory committee shall be formed within six months from the date of the adoption of the ordinance from which this article was derived. This committee shall function as a liaison between the department of health, the food service industry, and consumers. This committee shall annually evaluate the food and drug program and submit an annual report along with any necessary recommendations to the office of the mayor. The composition of this advisory committee shall consist of representatives from each of the following organizational groups:
(1)
Louisiana Restaurant Association.
(2)
New Orleans Retail Grocers Association.
(3)
Greater New Orleans Hotel-Motel Association.
(4)
Louisiana Retail Beverage Association.
(5)
One member from an active consumer advocate group.
(6)
Two members at large.
(b)
Appointments to the advisory committee shall be made by the mayor from a minimum of two nominees for each position. Nominations for the trade association positions shall be made by the local trade association. Nominees for the consumer advocate and for at large positions shall be by open nominations submitted in writing to the office of the mayor at least five calendar days prior to the announcement by the mayor. The department of health shall provide a representative to serve as secretary to the advisory committee and such secretary shall report to the advisory committee on activities of the food and drug programs.
(c)
Appointments to the food and/or beverage advisory committee shall be for a period of one year. When a committee member resigns, a new committee member shall be appointed within 30 days.
