§ 170-596. Definitions.
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
Authorized garbage collector means any person holding an unsuspended and unrevoked authorization from the department of health to collect garbage from vessels within the Port of New Orleans.
Department of health means the department of health for the city.
Garbage means waste material, such as food scraps, table refuse, galley refuse, refuse from stores of vessels, spoiled fruits, vegetables and animal products, including such waste material in passengers' and crews' quarters, derived, in whole or in part, from fruits, vegetables or animal products.
Land means not only that part of the earth's surface usually indicated by that term, but includes any building, platform or other structure affixed to land, whether permanent or temporary, and any pier, dock, wharf or bridge extending into or across the Mississippi River within the Port of New Orleans.
Port of New Orleans means the area presently encompassed within such port by existing law within the parish or which may be hereafter restricted or extended by valid legislation.
Vessel means every description of craft or other contrivance used, or capable of being used, as a means of transportation on or in water.
