§ 162-379. Special inspections.

  • (a)

    Every taxicab and for-hire vehicle shall be submitted by the CPNC holder, or their authorized designee, for mechanical inspection as follows:

    (1)

    Upon initial issuance of the certificate of public necessity and convenience and before placing the vehicle in service;

    (2)

    Whenever there is a transfer of the vehicle from one person to another;

    (3)

    Whenever the vehicle has been involved in an accident requiring repairs; or

    (4)

    Whenever there has been a change of taximeters in taxicabs or the installation of an advertising card holder in a licensed vehicle.

    (b)

    The CPNC vehicle shall not be operated and the CPNC tag removed but not replaced when:

    (1)

    The vehicle fails to meet the requirements of the inspection as provided in this chapter; or

    (2)

    The vehicle has failed to pass an inspection by the for-hire vehicle inspection station to determine that the vehicle is safe and in satisfactory mechanical condition, including inside and outside appearance.
