§ 154-1523. Weight limits.

  • (a)

    Subject to the limits in section 154-1522 and except by permit as provided in section 154-1524, no truck, tractor or trailer shall be operated on this streets of the city if the following are exceeded:

    (1)

    The total gross weight of any vehicle or combination of vehicles shall not exceed 88,000 pounds; and no vehicle or combination of vehicles shall exceed its license gross weight.

    (2)

    No tire mounted on any axle attached to any vehicle or combination of vehicles shall impose a greater weight on the surface of a highway than 650 pounds per inch width of tire.

    (3)

    The total gross weight of any single axle attached to any vehicle and equipped with low pressure pneumatic tires shall not exceed 20,000 pounds.

    (4)

    The total gross weight of any tandem axle or tandem steering axle attached to any vehicle and equipped with low pressure pneumatic tires shall not exceed 34,000 pounds.

    (5)

    The total gross weight of any tridum axle attached to any vehicle and equipped with low pressure pneumatic tires shall not exceed 42,000 pounds.

    (6)

    The total gross weight of any single axle or any single steering axle attached to any vehicle and equipped with high pressure pneumatic, solid rubber or cushion tires shall not exceed 18,000 pounds.

    (7)

    The total gross weight of any tandem axle or any tandem steering axle attached to any vehicle and equipped with high pressure pneumatic, solid rubber or cushion tires shall not exceed 32,000 pounds.

    (8)

    The total gross weight of any trailer shall not exceed 40,000 pounds, regardless of the number or type of axles under it.

    (9)

    No vehicle with more than two axles shall be permitted on any of the streets within the city other than those listed as truck routes, except that travel to or from points of origin or destination shall be permissible via the shortest practicable route between such point of origin or destination, and the nearest street listed as a truck route.

    (b)

    When traveling on such designated streets, every motor truck, tractor, or trailer shall be driven as near to the right-hand curb of the roadway as is practicable under existing conditions.
