§ 154-608. Vieux Carré malls.

  • The portions of Royal and Bourbon Streets listed in this section shall be closed to vehicular traffic in accordance with the following provisions:

    (1)

    Royal Street Mall. Royal Street shall be closed to vehicular traffic from the northern curb of Bienville Street to the southern curb of Orleans Street between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. weekdays and 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

    (2)

    Bourbon Street Mall.

    a.

    Bourbon Street, from the northern curb of Iberville Street to the southern curb of St. Ann Street, shall be closed to all vehicular traffic except delivery, freight, and service vehicles, as defined in this chapter, and taxicabs, as provided for in subsection c., during the hours commencing at 8:00 p.m. and continuing until 11:00 a.m. of each day, with the exception of New Year's Day, Mardi Gras, and all other occasions declared by resolution of the city council. At those times, all vehicular traffic shall be prohibited at all hours of each day or as otherwise provided by resolution of the city council.

    b.

    During the hours commencing at 6:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:00 p.m. of each day, delivery, freight, and service vehicles, as defined in this chapter, shall be permitted to exclusively park within the areas designated by appropriate signage erected and/or installed by the department of streets, consisting of the riverside curbs of the Bourbon Street Mall, as defined hereinabove. During these hours, all other vehicles shall be prohibited from parking or stopping in the Bourbon Street Mall.

    c.

    Taxicabs that are either picking up or dropping off passengers in the 300 block of Bourbon Street will be permitted to enter the Bourbon Street Mall from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
