§ 122-16. Ferry terminals—Prohibited activities.

  • It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in any of the activities herein below listed while within the confines of the ferry terminals located at Canal Street, Jackson Avenue, or in Algiers. Those activities which shall be unlawful, unless specifically approved by the executive director of the Crescent City Connection Division of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development are:

    (a)

    Offenses.

    (1)

    The destruction, injury, defacement, removal or disturbance in any manner of any building, sign, fence, gate, equipment, monument, marker, or other structure.

    (2)

    Littering, as defined in section 138-2.

    (3)

    Smoking, as defined in section 122-8, except as permitted in designated areas.

    (4)

    The use of bicycles, skateboards, tricycles, and any other such vehicles, as well as motorbikes, go-carts, and other motorized vehicles in any of the ferry terminals or passenger walkways. Wheelchairs and baby carriages are permitted.

    (5)

    Disturbing the peace, as defined in section 54-403, while on ferry terminal property.

    (6)

    Solicitation, as defined in section 54-411.

    (7)

    Possession of tools and/or markers or other instruments used in a manner causing destruction to property, equipment or facilities of the ferry terminals.

    (b)

    Penalties. A violation of this section is punishable by municipal court, as follows:

    (1)

    Any person who violates any subsections of (a) of this section shall be punished by a fine of not less than $50.00 or more than $500.00.

    (2)

    Any person who violates subsections (a)(4) or (a)(7) shall surrender the item (vehicle, tool and/or marker) to the New Orleans Police Department or the Crescent City Connection Police Department to be used as evidence against the person found in possession of the item.

    (3)

    In addition to the above penalties, the court may, in its discretion, order imprisonment for not more than three months for any offense of subsection (a)(1), (a)(4), (a)(5), or (a)(7) of this section.

    (c)

    Warning signs. Signs shall be erected at each entrance to the ferry terminals located at Canal Street, Jackson Avenue, and in Algiers citing the prohibitions enumerated in this section.
